Your Questions, Answered

  • I work with founders and event industry leaders in four main ways:

    • Strategic Deep Dive & 90‑Day Plan – a short, focused engagement to understand where you are now and build a clear 90‑day roadmap.

    • Fractional C‑Suite & Advisory – part‑time senior leadership support on strategy, operations and execution.

    • NED & UK Nominated Director services – acting as a UK‑based Non‑Executive Director or Nominated Director, particularly for foreign businesses entering the UK.

    • Founders’ Compass coaching – 1:1 support for founders who want help with clarity, resilience and leadership.

All of this builds on 25+ years of management and leadership experience across hospitality, events and tech, including co‑founding and scaling a startup to multi‑million revenue.

  • Yes.

For advisory, fractional and coaching work I can work with founders and teams anywhere, as long as time zones are manageable.

For NED / UK Nominated Director roles, I primarily support foreign companies that are establishing or growing a UK presence and need a UK‑based director on record. I also act as a NED for UK‑based startups where there’s a good fit.

  • A UK Nominated Director is a UK‑based director who formally sits on the board of your UK company and helps you meet local legal and practical requirements. This is especially useful for overseas founders who want to open a UK entity, set up a bank account or start trading in the UK but don’t have a trusted senior person on the ground here.

  • We start with a formal onboarding, including anti money laundering (AML) and know your customer (KYC) checks and a review of your business model, structure and plans. If I’m comfortable with the risk profile and fit, I’ll act as your UK‑based director on a monthly retainer, supporting bank setup, basic governance and UK relationships, and we can add advisory, fractional or coaching support if needed.

  • Most people start with a short conversation.

You can either book an intro call, send me a message through the contact form, or connect on LinkedIn. In that first chat we’ll look at what you’re trying to achieve, whether I’m the right fit, and which of my services (if any) makes most sense.

There’s no obligation to work together after that. The goal is simply to understand your situation and next steps.

  • A few things:

    • Operator first, advisor second – I’ve run P&Ls, built teams and co‑founded a startup, so my advice is grounded in execution, not just theory.

    • Two worlds, one lens – I’ve spent decades in events and hospitality and a decade in startups, so I understand both complex legacy organisations and fast‑moving tech businesses.

    • Strategic and personal – I’m interested in the business model, but also in how it feels to be the person running it. The work is as much about better decisions as it is about staying sane while you make them.

I also keep my client roster deliberately small so I can stay close and useful, not spread thin.

  • You can:

    • Use the contact form on this site

    • Email me directly (alan@newtonsquared.com)

    • Or send me a message on LinkedIn

Whichever route you choose, I’ll usually reply within two working days to suggest a time to talk.

  • I keep pricing simple and transparent.

    • The Strategic Deep Dive & 90‑Day Plan is a fixed‑fee engagement agreed up front, based on scope.

    • Fractional C‑Suite / advisory are usually monthly retainers, with a clear number of days or sessions included.

    • Coaching is based on an hourly rate per session, or a negotiated rate based upon a minimum commitment to at least 5 sessions

    • NED / UK Nominated Director work has an upfront onboarding fee (for AML/KYC and initial analysis) and then an ongoing monthly retainer for as long as I hold the role.

Exact numbers depend on your stage, complexity and what you need from me, and we always agree them together before we start.

  • People usually describe the experience as calm, honest and practical.

    You can expect:

    • Straightforward conversations

    • A mix of strategic thinking and very concrete next steps

    • Someone who will challenge you when needed, but is firmly on your side

I don’t disappear between meetings, and I’d rather tell you “this isn’t a fit” than sell you something you don’t need.

  • On the startup side, I work with early and growth‑stage founders, usually in the £250k–£5m ARR range, who want experienced support on strategy, operations and leadership.

On the events side, I work with senior leaders in hotels, event agencies and corporate event teams who own significant event or meetings budgets and want to link them more clearly to commercial outcomes.

Most engagements are remote, but I’m based near London and can work in‑person when it adds value.

  • Yes, in a couple of ways.

    • The Strategic Deep Dive includes a short, defined set of sessions plus a written 90‑day plan.

    • For founders who mainly want a confidential sounding board, we can arrange a limited number of one‑off or short‑run coaching/advisory sessions, and then decide whether ongoing work makes sense.
